I miss Baguio. Even though we were only there for 48 hours, that city made me wish I lived there. Baguio has always been one my favorite summer destinations. It’s funny that here in the Philippines, a city known for its cold weather and ukay-ukay is considered the summer capital. Nope, not a beautiful town with an amazing beach for a tropical country like us, but it had to be Baguio.
But believe me I am not complaining, after enduring the heat in the city, the kind of heat that makes you get up in the middle of the night and take a bath – twice – there’s nothing like the smell of pine trees and a light fog in the afternoon to get you going.
It was my dad who decided to take the family to Baguio for my mom’s birthday. And me, being on vacation for two weeks, was assigned to look for the accomodations. Now, I only had a week to look for one that would accomodate a family of 7, it was supposed to be just 5 but my younger sister Ja, insisted that she come along with her husband, but it was fine with us,except now I had to adjust the budget, because we didn’t want to stay at a hotel, we wanted one with a kitchen so we could cook our own meal. We originally wanted to stay at Villa Al Pino, this hotel is like a condominium, so no problem with the kitchen, but the price was too high, 4,000 for an overnight stay, so scratch that.
After days of calling hotels, including Teacher’s Camp, which was cheap by the way, 2,500 for a 4 bedroom apartment! But they were fully booked until next week. I finally called up this apartelle that I found in of the tourist websites for Baguio city. I made a reservation at Tulip Apartelle the day before we set out for Baguio. Our plan was to check it out first and of we didn’t like it, we’d just cancel the reservation then start looking at the houses for rent.
But it turned out we didn’t have to, because the apartelle was nice enough, it had a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, a bath with a heater and even a fireplace, all for 2,900 a night! Worth it right? My only complain though was the bedsheets were less than desirabe, but overall I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s right beside NEvada Square, which they say is the place to be during the evening, but not for us anyway since we didn’t come to Baguio to party but to enjoy the weather and shop for ukay, which I did, well my mom did anyway. I bought 4 pairs of shoes and this really cure bag, all for 500! Yay!
But now I’m back in Manila, and last night I got up and took a bath twice, and I have this sprayer beside me in bed which I filled with water and used when the heat was too much.
I miss Baguio. sniff.
